Banksy - The Picasso of the streets

Propaganda Poster

This poster is about conserving meterials during the World War II. Famine was one of the biggest problems in war. With this poster the enemy (Hitler) was described with a sheet of paper and some meterial. It says that "waste" is the friend of the enemy.

The Movie

There is also a movie of "Holes"(2003). After I finished the book  I watched the movie "Holes". I find it also good. Famous faces acts. Today we started watching the movie "Holes" in class. I am glad to watch this movie twice. I recommend this movie and book to everyone. You can watch trailer and get more information from here.

Now time to fill the holes in our life!

Analysis

The book "Holes" is written by Louis Sachar. You can find information about the author and the book from here.
I want to talk about language of the book. I find the language very easy to understand. Meanings of the words are given in the end of the pages. It helped me sometimes. Readers always want to go on reading, because chapter endings aren't like an ending. The action never stops. Language of main plot and the stories in the past are different. Elya Yelnat's story and Kissing Kate Barlow's story are told like a tale and the main plot are told different.
We learned Zero's and Warden's real names in the end of the book. If they have no nicknames, we could guess the end of the story and it would make the story less exciting. Reader surprises after learning who are Zero and Wardan in reality. The other funny nicknames are also makes the book more exciting. Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather is a very exciting and strange nickname. Reader learns everything are interconnected.
I think the author wanted to teach the life to teenagers with many different topics: thirsty, crime, friendship, family, racism, destiny, bad luck, working hard... Also he wanted to write a book which everyone can read without being bored. I thank you Louis Sachar.

Kiss Me Baby One More Time

Her real name is Katherine Barlow. She is teacher of town Green Lake and she makes delicious spiced peaches which will be called by Zero and Stanley "Sploosh". She teaches during day children and at night adults. Most men find her very attractive. But she falls in love in Sam, who is a black man and sells onions. Sam
gives her his best onions and fixes her broken things. She gives him her spiced peaches. She is also very brave and pretty woman. She is the first woman who says to Trout Walker "no". One day Sam kisses her. Someone sees them and public destroys school and decides to kill Sam. Sam is shooted and killed his boat (RACISM ALERT!) because he sells onions and he is black! Blacks cannot kiss white women!

Three days later she shoots and kills sheriff and gives him a kiss he wanted and she becomes Kissing Kate Barlow who one of the most feared outlaws in all west for the next twenty years, but her only known victim is Green Lake's sheriff. She kills people and gives them kiss public says. Also she robs I. Stanley Yelnats but she doesn't kill him. She returns after twenty years to the Green Lake but lake becomes a desert. Trout Walker comes and wants from her to tell him where the loot which she has from robbed banks. But she doesn't tell him that she buried the loot and she says to him:
"You, and your children and their children, can dig for the hundred years and you'll never find it."
Yellow-spotted lizard comes but she does nothing because she wants to die. It bites her and she dies laughing.

I liked this character, because she is true lover who never forgets Sam. She is very brave and pretty woman. She has own beliefs and values.

25th May

      Dear dairy,
Today is my SECOND day in the Camp Green Lake and i dug my SECOND hole. It was harder than my first hole. I was the last boy who finished digging like yesterday.
I found an interesting fish fossil in my hole. I was very excited, because if Warden liked it I would get rest of the day off, but she didn't. :( X-ray said to me that I should give it to him if I find something else. I said ok, because I think it's fair. He've been here for a year but he have never found anything. Maybe my luck is coming back :) but i don't feel lucky.
I am glad to come here. Diggin' holes becoming harder but I have many new friends and I think they are very nice and cool boys. I have a nickname. They call me "CAVEMAN" It means they accepted me as a member of group.
We talked with Mr. Pendanski about future. I used to want to work for FBI but now I don't know what I want to become. Mr. Pendanski asked me why I was here and I said that because of my no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and everybody laughed except Mr. Pendanski. Even Zero smiled who always seems angry and digs very fast. Zero is a strange boy. I think he has some problems but he don't want to share it with us.
I should sleep. Good night. Tomorrow won't be easier than today.

A Holiday and A Book Again

I will write a blog about the book "Holes"(this is my first blog)

My First Impressions
I waited a boring and long book but my first impressions are positive. The book creates interest on readers from first sentence.

"There is no lake at Camp Green Lake."(p.7, Ch. 1)
It's kind of irony, I think.

Its language is easy to understand. The author uses flashbacks. Flashbacks makes usually harder to understand the book, but in this book they makes the story interesting and fascinating.

I liked this part a lot:
"Take a good look around you," Mr. Sir said. "What do you see?"
Stanley looked out across the vast wasteland. The air seemed thick with heat and dirt. "Not much," he said, then hastily added, "Mr. Sir."
Mr. Sir laughed. "You see any guard towers?"
  "No."
"You want to run away?" Mr. Sir asked him.
Stanley looked back at him, unsure what he meant.
"If you want you run away, go ahead, start running. I'm not going to stop you."
Stanley didn't know what kind of game Mr. Sir was playing.
"I see you're looking at my gun. Don't worry. I'm not going to shoot you." He tapped his holster. "This is for yellow-spotted lizards. I wouldn't waste a bullet on you."
"I'm not going to run away," Stanley said.
"Good thinking," said Mr. Sir. "Nobody runs away from here. We don't need a fence. Know why? Because we've the only water for a hundred miles. You want to run away? You'll buzzard food in three days."

If I were Stanley, I would understand this is not a Girl Scout camp. :) He must be careful about yellow-spotted lizards and other dangers. Because he has bad luck from his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather.
I liked the ending of chapters. Chapters ends but action don't end and reader like to go on reading and it makes the story fascinating.
